This is one of the most defining moments of being a PSG supporter. Portugal’s all time record goalscorers Cristiano Ronaldo has netted more times than anyone else in the history of the UEFA Champions League. He is also ahead of the rest in this season’s edition.
Having scored double figures in the past six seasons, the Madrid forward is already onto bigger things as he has netted 11 times this term. Ronaldo has scored against every opposition team this season, and has made the Champions League is own territory of kingship.
The 33 year old scored a brace in his team’s last 16 first leg tie at the Bernabeu as the Whites ran out winners on a 3-1 margin. Despite his early struggles in the league, the former Sporting wonderkid has scored 10 goals in his previous five games. Amazing.
He has kept on scoring for fun in the UCL finishing with nine goals after just six games in the group stages. In their first game, Cristiano scored two in a match that finished 3-0 against APOEL before supplementing it with another brace in the 3-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund, while also netting a goal in the 1-1 draw versus Tottenham Hotspur.
Ronaldo scored Madrid’s lone goal in the 3-1 defeat to the English team, adding another brace in a 6-0 victory while on away turf against APOEL, with another goal in the 3-2 success over Dortmund. Following his double against Paris Saint Germain, Ronaldo now has 11 goals in the current UCL campaign. It is absolutely fair to voice that Ronaldo has been in top form in the 2017/18 edition of the most famed club competition.
On the other hand, Barcelona have hit the net half as many times as Real Madrid. The Ernesto Valverde-led club have only converted their chances 10 times this season.
Following their 3-0 home win against Italian Champions Juventus, the Catalans beat Sporting CP 1-0 on away ground while they humiliated Olympiacos 3-1 right in Camp Nou. Subsequently, they played a goalless game against the same team while turning out another goalless display in Turin before they had a 2-0 victory over Sporting CP in Barcelona.
The goals scored in the group stage coupled with the 1-1 scoreline versus Chelsea, made the Catalans’ overall goals 10 this term. They have the chance to surpass the Portuguese when they face Chelsea next week, provided the Portuguese doesn’t score against PSG which is nearly impossible judging by his current form and his fondness for Champions League nights.
Madrid better focus more on PSG than Ronaldo if they don’t want a turnaround they will regret for the rest of the season. Also, PSG players have to get their game plan right to defeat the Spanish team and shut down Ronaldo’s prowess.
